Volunteers at North Hawaii Community Hospital are an integral part of our ohana of caregivers. They give their time freely and complement the circle of care in this healing environment.

We currently have 70 volunteers in the program, including adults and college and high school students. Junior volunteers must be 16 years of age. Volunteers go through the same application process as employees: interviews and background checks, personal references, health clearances, 2-step TB tests and General Hospital Orientation before being assigned to a department.

As Ambassadors of Aloha, volunteers help with a variety of activities:

  • escort patients
  • deliver flowers
  • greet visitors
  • information desk
  • gift shop clerk
  • aloha cart ambassador
  • perform various office duties (filing, copying, answering phones, etc.)

One person can make a difference, but it takes a team to make great things happen!
