North Hawaii Community Hospital has a technologically advanced operating room to support services delivered by our highly skilled surgeons. The operating rooms can be connected virtually to The Queen's Medical Center on Oahu for consultation if needed.
Our general surgeons specialize in surgery on the abdomen, skin, breast, soft tissues, or endocrine system, including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and bile ducts, among other organs. Additional services include hernia repair surgery and trauma management.

MEET OUR PHYSICIANS
Ty Chun, MD
An Oahu native, Dr. Ty Chun received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Hawaii and graduated from the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii. Dr. Chun completed his general surgery residency in Denver, CO, where he received both outstanding intern and resident awards. He then went on to private practice in Bremerton, WA where he has worked for the past 25 years.
As a member of North Hawaii Health & Wellness General Surgery Clinic, Dr. Chun’s practice includes surgery of the thyroid, parathyroid, breast, abdomen, and colon. Also included are hemorrhoids, hernias, soft tissue, trauma, and colonoscopy.
David Park, MD
Dr. David Park was born in Korea and came to the United States at age one, growing up in Illinois. He attended Amherst College in Massachusetts and the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He completed his surgical training at William Beaumont Hospital in Michigan and has practiced for the last 12 years in Florence, Oregon.
Dr. Park has joined the North Hawaii Health & Wellness General Surgery Clinic performing general surgery as well as upper and lower endoscopy. In his free time, Dr. Park enjoys karate, kendo, paddle boarding, and bicycling.
Howard Wong, MD
Dr. Wong was born and raised in Honolulu, graduated from Punahou School and from the University of California, Berkeley, with a degree in biochemistry. He graduated from the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii, and completed his surgical training at the University of Hawaii and the University of Nevada, where he stayed for two years on faculty in the Department of Surgery, training and supervising residents. He returned to Hawaii in 2001 and opened a general surgery private practice in Kamuela.
Dr. Wong’s professional experience encompasses the full spectrum of general surgery, including benign and malignant diseases of the abdomen, gastrointestinal tract, breast, skin and soft tissue, and endocrine systems, as well as hernia repairs and trauma management. Dr. Wong has expertise in laparoscopic/minimally invasive surgeries and continues to work to bring new technologies and innovative procedures to the Big Island.

Our regularly scheduled surgeries are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 3:00 pm, with services provided after hours by an on-call team for 24-hour coverage.
Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.
