Oncology Gift Baskets Donated by 11 Year Old Girl
Posted on Wednesday, February 15, 2012

Shania Hooper, an 11 year old from Kailua Kona, graciously donated her time and energy creating gift baskets for oncology patients at NHCH.

Shania provided over 15 gift baskets to NHCH oncology patients as part of a church project.  Her grandfather passed away from cancer, and she wanted to do something to help those affected by cancer in her local community.  Shania worked with several members of her church to create special and personal baskets.  For instance, one church member sewed handmade lap blankets while another crocheted hats.

Each gift basket includes a notebook, a crossword or word search book, lotion, socks, hard candies, and words of encouragement.  Oncology has already given over half of the baskets to patients as they come to the hospital for treatment, and the response has been overwhelming.  In fact, many patients get teary eyed when they realize the lovely baskets were donated by an 11 year old girl.

Mahalo, Shania, for your thoughtful donation.  You have touched many hearts.
