North Hawaii Community Hospital (NHCH) Director of Holistic Care Services, Arielle Faith Michael, has been named one of the 2011 “VIP Women of the Year” by National Association of Professional Women (NAPW). Michael was one of 207 recipients chosen from a membership of 150,000 and the only healthcare recipient in the state of Hawai‘i.

NAPW is an exclusive network for professional women to interact, exchange ideas, educate, and empower.  NAPW’s mission is to provide the most advanced forum for members to connect with like-minded professional women to develop innovative business and social relationships.

The 2011 NAPW’s “VIP Women of the Year” were selected in recognition of the strides they have made in their respective industries, their outstanding leadership, professional achievements and for displaying the highest level of support of NAPW’s commitment to networking and community involvement.

Michael is the Director of Holistic Care Services at NHCH and offers the following complimentary services to all NHCH patients: healing touch and reiki, prayer blanket ministry, pet therapy, aromatherapy and guided imagery.  Incorporating blended medicine into patient care was part of NHCH’s vision from the very start.  NHCH’s vision is to treat the whole individual - mind, body and spirit - through a team approach to patient-centered care, and ultimately to become the most healing hospital in the world.

“I am humbly grateful to receive this award and will continue to work hard to be a worthy steward of the most healing hospital in the world,” says Michael. “I would also like to acknowledge the members of the Holistic Council: Kathy Myers, Jennifer Rabalais, Cora Buno, Gwen Cox, Bill Brown and Lorrie Mortensen” says Michael.

Michael continues, “Earl Bakken, inventor of the pace maker and founder of Medtronic, once asked me “who is the soul of North Hawaii Community Hospital?” My reply, “it isn’t so much ‘who’ as it is ‘what’ – it is everyone that had a hand in making the vision of our hospital a reality: Spirit/God, the community, the five mountains that surround us, the sacred ground we sit upon, the sky, the ocean, the animals, the plant life, the patients and especially the employees who give from their hearts every day to carry forward the legacy. Individually, we are special but together we are spectacular! This is the soul of NHCH,” says Michael.
