Celebrating Heritage Day

North Hawai’i Community Hospital joined The Queen’s Medical Center for its annual Heritage Day ceremonies commemorating the legacy of Founders Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV, with special recognition locally of Lucy Henriques and Lucy Peabody.  Employees at NHCH were treated to a full program including oli, pule, presentation of ho’okupu, hula and song by fellow employees.

All of the Queen’s hospitals – Queen’s Medical Center, Queen’s West Oahu, Molokai General Hospital and North Hawaii Community Hospital -  connected together via teleconference for the ceremony held on Oahu.

This year’s theme MALAMA HAWAI’I celebrates the return of the voyaging canoe Hokule’a, from its worldwide voyage. As Hokule’a begins her statewide sail, the Queen’s Heritage Day honors her ability to bridge ancient wisdom with modern technology as King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma did.
