Long-Time Hawaii Island General Surgeon Joins NHCH

Long-time Hawaii Island general surgeon Alistair Bairos, M.D., joins North Hawaii Community Hospital, offering comprehensive general surgery experience with a special interest in wound care.

“Dr. Bairos has consistently provided general surgery services to Hawaii Island residents and visitors for more than 30 years,” says Ken Graham, NHCH President.  “We are pleased to have him join our team.”   From 1985 to 2010, Dr. Bairos offered general surgery services through a private practice in Kealakekua, followed by four years as general surgeon at Ali’i Health in Kailua Kona.  Most recently, he served as on-call surgeon for NHCH and Kona Community Hospital, as well as physician leader with Pharm2Pharm, a grant project with the University of Hawaii, Hilo, to improve medication reconciliation through deeper integration of hospitals and community pharmacists.

Dr. Bairos graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science/PreMed and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Dalhousie University School of Medicine in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.  Next, he completed an integrated surgical internship at the University of Hawaii and surgical residency at the University of Hawaii and San Joaquin County Hospital.  Dr. Bairos is a Certified Wound Specialist Physician (CWS-P) and a Fellow of the American College of Certified Wound Specialists (FACCWS).
