Hospital Staff Help Make The Holidays Brighter
Posted on Tuesday, December 24, 2013

Hospital staff donated more than two car loads full of needed items to support the efforts of The Big Island Giving Tree (BIGT), a local, non-profit organization created to assist families on Hawaii Island during the holidays.

Thanks to the hospital’s Trauma Program, staff who donated three or more needed items received a hospital Trauma Program t-shirt!   “The turnout was incredible,” says Jeffrey Castillo, Trauma Coordinator.  “Nearly everyone donated more than 15 items each!”  On Friday, December 13th, Jeff and Trauma Registrar, Jolyn, dropped off two car loads full of donations to The Big Island Giving Tree, including more than 600 canned goods, 70 rolls of toilet paper, 60 shampoos, 40 bars of soap, 32 tooth brushes and MUCH MORE!

In addition, our hospital's Medical Staff choose to donate $500 to The Big Island Giving Tree to further their local efforts.  Dr. Doug Hiller, NHCH Orthopedic Surgeon and Chief of Staff, presented the $500 check to Rhonda Lee with The Big Island Giving Tree on December 19th during our annual Medical Staff meeting.

With the help of the hospital’s donations, The Big Island Giving Tree was able to help make the holidays brighter for more than 60 families, 200 seniors and 20 homeless right here on Hawaii Island.
