A Year of Transition
Posted on Monday, November 25, 2013

Lowell Johnson has been serving as our Interim CEO since January of this year, arriving along with Huron Consulting Group to work with our Board of Directors and Leadership to improve our hospital’s overall efficiencies.

There have been significant strides made to this end under his direction and leadership. One of the most significant is the due diligence process for a possible affiliation with The Queen’s Health Systems (Queen’s).  Lowell will be completing his contract with NHCH on December 31, 2013 and will be assuming the role of Interim CEO of Riverside County Regional Medical Center in January.  We graciously thank him for all his efforts and wish him the very best on his next assignment.

The Queen’s Health Systems (Queen’s) held three community “Talk Story” sessions on Hawaii Island in November as part of their continued in-depth due diligence process.  The views of the community are important to Queen’s and will help determine how best they can serve the growing health needs of North Hawaii and Hawaii Island.  Queen’s CEO, Art Ushijima, spoke and answered questions at each of the well-attended talk story sessions held in Waimea on Thursday, November 7th, Honoka’a on Tuesday, November 12th and North Kohala on Monday, November 18th.

A decision from Queen’s regarding the possibility of an affiliation with NHCH is expected to be announced after the Queen’s Board of Directors meet on December 16th.  Stay tuned!
