Hospital Employees Support Island Keiki
Posted on Friday, July 26, 2013

Every year thousands of Hawai‘i Island keiki start a new school year without the necessary school supplies need. That’s why NHCH has partnered again with Hawai‘i Island United Way and other community partners to sponsor KAPA Radio’s “Support The Keiki” back to school drive to raise awareness and needed school supplies for Hawai‘i Island keiki.

Far too often kids are embarrassed or ashamed on their first day of school because they lack the proper school supplies and tools needed to be successful. KAPA Radio and Hawai‘i Island United Way created “Support The Keiki” to raise awareness and needed school supplies for Hawai‘i Island keiki to make their first day one of excitement and enthusiasm.

During the month of July, hospital employees held their own school supplies drive to support this wonderful initiative. The following school supplies where donated by NHCH employees:

- 10 three-ring binders
- 12 scissors
- 13 bottles of glue
- 14 glue sticks
- 16 folders
- 18 block erasers
- 20 markers
- 24 highlighters
- 48 composition tablets
- 48 ball point pens
- 72 colored pencils
- 188 pencils
- 888 crayons
- 3,600 sheets of paper

KAPA Radio and Hawaii Island United Way will collect, sort and deliver supplies to the schools on Hawaii Island with the greatest need in early August. For more information, please visit www.kaparadio.com.
